DJ DeeKay - In The Mix

"I'm highly recommended, don't need a second opinion..." ( c ) Ciara

Ciara - Like A Surgeon

I'd let Ciara operate on me any time...

Well I wouldn't, mainly because she's not actually a surgeon, just "like" one and I've seen too many episodes of Grey's Anatomy to make that kind of amateur mistake. Plus she doesn't really sound like she knows what she's talking about.

Anyone else get serious Aaliyah vibes from this one?

Loudmouth Melvin - My Top 10 List

Shout to Team Supreme.

I'm inclined to disagree with some of Melvin's lineup. Like Lethal for example. No disrespect, he's just not my cup of tea lyrically. Same with Goodz, but with Goodz, I KNOW he's sick, I can appreciate that technically he's extremely gifted, but he just doesn't do anything for me. Pause. That Top 3 Selected verse was hard tho.

For the record, my current UK Top 10, in no particular order is...

1. Ghetts
2. Wiley
3. Kano
4. Sway
5. Chipmunk
6. Wretch 32
7. Tinie Tempah
8. Bashy
9. Riz MC
10. Asher D

Honourable mentions to Skepta, Klash, Scorcher, and Double S.

Tinie Tempah Behind The Scenes At Jay Sean's Video Shot

From Tinie's Blog. Big up to him, passed through Fresh Cuts a couple of weeks ago, sick guy. Big up Jay for representing the UK nicely, getting cameos for guys like Chip and Tinie and Ghetts in his Lil' Wayne featuring first US single.

Tinchy Hits #1!

For real, I'm kinda proud of Stryder for bagging the top spot. You could never deny the guy his achievement, he worked for it, never sold out, made the right moves and now he's doing us all proud.

I'm listening to Jay Sean with Birdman from last night's Westwood's show right now. Everyone knows I been a supporter of Jay from day (check my interview with him in the forthcoming issue of Redtop which should be out this coming week) but fucking hell, the UK is doing beautifully right now.

Drake on Joe Budden TV

I'm talking a bit too much about Drake considering that ain't nobody breaking me off a cheque for it, but as I was mentioning his buzz on my radio show today, I saw this video just now and it kinda illustrates my point. Drake is with Joey in New York city, this brother's from Canada remember. See the love he gets from the locals, people lining up to take a picture with him and shake the man's hand. And he ain't even got an album out yet. Now that's buzz.

On a totally unrelated note, we had Kris Baya in the studio today, and he did an amazing acoustic version of Heartbreaker for us on a totally different vibe to the funky house original. What is it with artists coming onto Fresh Cuts and doing versions of their songs for us which completely duppy off the originals?! Charlie Brown did it with Dependancy too: as much as I love the original, the acoustic he did for us was on some next shit whereby I don't ever need to hear that OG studio version ever again because the Fresh Cuts version is just so good. Not that I'm complaining that artists are passing through and blessing us with legendary performances! Shout to Kris, Justin and of course CD Spinz.

Pepsi Raw

It's actually a lot. Tastes pretty similar to normal Pepsi. Though I was drinking it ice cold on a hot spring day, so whether my judgement was impaired I don't know.

"And I like the way you take advantage of, every man you love // I see you, and I know your game girl..." ( c ) Colby O'Donis

Colby O'Donis featuring Akon - What You Got (Acoustic)

Hold tight Vim for putting me up on this, completely missed it when the original dropped and that was a big tune for me.

Drake on Funkmaster Flex

Drake - Funkmaster Flex Freestyle

Understand that Drake is the future and remember where you heard of him first. Nothing but support coming from me here on High Fidelity and on Fresh Cuts. This is the biggest buzz any up-and-coming rapper has had since Kanye and it's only going to get stronger. The UK hasn't quite clocked onto this kid yet so get familiar with him people.

Tinchy Stryder and Dappy - Number One OUT NOW!

Tinchy's new single "Number One" featuring Dappy from N-Dubz is out right now. I just bought my copy (and I've had the promo for... a long long time), so support Tinchy and buy the record this week so we can push Stryder to the top of the charts.

Cop it from iTunes here.

"First I took the time out, then I put then time in // money ain't everything, it's all about the timing..." ( c ) Fabolous

Fabolous featuring Jeremih - It's My Time

Big. Dun kno the relentless grind, it's the only way to win in 2009.

"When my album drops, bitches will buy it for the picture // and n*****s will buy it too and claim they got it for their sister..." ( c ) Drake

Drake - Best I Ever Had (Live)

Mark my words, Drake is five minutes away from taking over the whole game. The guy's buzz is immense, listen to the crowd singing along to every word. Twitter-based conjecture has it he was in the studio with Jay-Z and Just Blaze this weekend. If that's for real, that might just be the hottest shit of the year.

Drake - Every Girl, Successful, Brand New Live Medley

And as Drizzy would say, "is anything I'm doing brand new?"

Tinie Tempah on Fresh Cuts w/ DJ DeeKay and Chinners This Saturday...

"Yeah, the raps I create are actually great // now watch for the entrance, fashionably late..." (c) Tinie Tempah

You could never say Tinie doesn't do what he talks about in his music! (iKid!) Lock onto Fresh Cuts on Roundhouse Radio this week to hear special guest in the studio Tinie Tempah talk about his new mixtape, the state of the UK "Urban" scene and what to expect from his album, as well as blessing us with a big mini-set. Mini enough that I should probably call it a freestyle. As well as Tinie, you can hear our exclusive interview with D12 and Royce Da 5'9 who we caught up with when they were over in the UK a couple of weeks ago, alongside big new music from Shystie, Double S, Riz MC, Mitchell Brothers, Davinche and Newham Generals.

That's Fresh Cuts on Roundhouse Radio, with Tinie Tempah, D12 and Royce Da 5'9 Saturday at 8pm. Listen here.

Or if you miss it wait until Sunday and I'll drop the listen back link.

Young Nate interview and PA of "I Wonder" on the show next week. Lil' bit of exclusive advance information for y'all seeing as I'm nice like that. We really "need some more girls in here", time to book a few female artists for the show I think!

Wiley - Spraying (Freestyle)

Fresh Cuts w/ DJ DeeKay and Chinners - Special Guest XO Man (11-04-09)

Listen back to Saturday's show.

What's good people, hope y'all enjoyed your Easter holiday. I'm off to Tesco in a bit to try and nab some cut-price easter eggs. The only easter egg that anyone got me this year is sitting in that person's yard right now, and I suspect she might eat it/give it to an actual child before it ever gets to me.

Make me feel slightly more loved by listening back to this week's Fresh Cuts with myself and Chinners, and our special guest, Hugo Urban Rules winner XO Man.

Listen back to Saturday's show.

Ava Leigh - La La La
Ne-Yo - Trouble
Robin Thicke - You're My Baby

On next week's show, we've got a crazy interview with D12 and Royce Da 5'9 who were in the UK a couple of weeks ago and took some time out of their hectic schedule to check in with Fresh Cuts. Find out what they have to say about Soulja Boy, Eminem and their new album. And Royce talks about Slaughterhouse and future plans for the supergroup. My Hip-Hop heads will know.

Flawless on Britain's Got Talent

North London's Got Talent. If you don't know then learn.

"But for the longest I been knowing this // every woman I attract is crazy, just a little bit..." ( c ) Sam Chris

Sam Chris featuring Big Boi - These Past Days

Love this. Been looking for a version minus Big Boi to play on Fresh Cuts next weekend but no luck. Nothing against Sir Lucious Leftfoot, but this is just so smooth it doesn't need no MC. Except maybe Common. Or even the other member of Outkast. Andre could do alot on this.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Easter Sunday!

"Can't change the way you are, besides I//
Don't think I'd love you the same, if you weren't crazy //
Just a little bit..."

Project Urban Cancelled...

This was scheduled to be the biggest Grime event this year and would have featured Tinchy Stryder, Ironik, Chipmunk, Skepta, Crazy Cousinz, Ghetts, Bashy, Logan Sama, Wretch 32, Scorcher and more.

I'll direct you towards this Guardian article by Dan Hancox from a few months ago, about the possibility that the police might be seeking to strangle the life out of live black music, and this Facebook group protesting the arbitrary cancellation of the show by the Met and the O2. They didn't see fit to consult nor inform the promoter of said event, who only found out about its cancellation via Facebook.

Right. That would definitely have happened if this were a Rock or Indie show.

"I can't be there with you, but I can dream..." ( c ) Mr Hudson

Mr Hudson - There Will Be Tears

In case you somehow didn't know, Mr Hudson is signed to Yeezy's GOOD Music. Great song, nice memorable video.

"It's changed round here, I haven't been back so long, but it's the same round here..."

Riz MC featuring Sway and Plan B - Shifty

I don't really think much of most Asian MCs, but I've rated Riz from day. Big actor and a sick lyricist. This track is fucking amazing. Gonna have to reach out to his people and get this brother onto Fresh Cuts as soon as possible! Shout to Chinners.

Might put Britz on now actually. Here's a bit more Riz for you:

Ah fuck. Bars.

N-Dubz - Wouldn't You (Video)

This was always one of my favourite songs on Uncle B - I think the opening trio of this, "Strong Again" and "Don't Get Nine" is one of the best starts to a UK album I've ever heard. Just straight up smash hit business. This is the 11th song from their album that they've shot a video for now. There's only three songs on there (not including skits) that don't have vids. Like it or not, N-Dubz are officially a powerhouse in UK music.

"I thought this was an "I'm doing it again" party, but it's more like a "god forgive me if I buss my nine" one..." ( c ) Skepta

Boy Better Know - Too Many Man (Video)

Mr Hudson featuring Kanye West - Anyone But Him (Live at SXSW)

Courtesy of Semtex. I'm painfully late on posting this but it's worth watching.

Melanie Fiona covering Kanye West's "Heartless"

What her band do with this is amazing. And here's more evidence if it was needed that Kanye and family wrote some GREAT songs for 808s.

Listen back to Fresh Cuts with DJ DeeKay and Chinners, featuring very special guest Charlie Brown.

And because I'm so nice, here's an extra-special treat. It's really from Charlie because I haven't had time to upload my videos yet, but here's a video clip of him singing Dependancy live in the Roundhouse Radio studio exclusively for Fresh Cuts.

Charlie Brown on Fresh Cuts Tonight!

SICK male vocalist Charlie Brown popped down to the Roundhouse Radio studios yesterday to pay a visit to Fresh Cuts. He spoke to us and then gave us an amazing acoustic performance. Real humble and down to earth guy with some serious talent who I have no doubt will be everywhere very soon.

Lock onto a very special Fresh Cuts with DeeKay and Chinners TONIGHT at 8pm on Roundhouse Radio to hear Charlie's interview in full as well as his EXCLUSIVE live acoustic session, alongside the finest in fresh new music from the likes of Asher Roth, Wale, Q-Tip, Justin Timberlake, Young Nate, Ryan Leslie and Kris Baya.

Videos and listen back and all that business will be sorted soon.

I wasn't lying when I told y'all that Fresh Cuts is the new sound.

"If this your favourite song, turn your radio on // play it for your man or your lady all night long..." ( c ) Ginuwine

Ginuwine - My Last Chance

I'd tell you how long I've had this song for, but I'd just be showing off. Let's just say that the Obama line has been making me cringe from before The Great One even won the election. Still, let's hope "Barack and his plan" involves paying a visit to Timbaland for a few tracks this album. G's been out of the limelight for entirely too long. Even if it was hot, this motherfucker made a Desi record about 5 years after that shit was cool.

Young Nate - I Wonder (Video)

Late on this because I was in Birmingham but this is a lovely slice of UK R&B, glad it's finally got a video. Maybe he'll be able to do what Nathan couldn't, the vocals are nice and it's perfect for the Summer. Wretch's verse on the remix is fucked too, it's a shame he couldn't make the shoot because I'm hoping this is going to get the push it deserves and go Top 20. Available now to buy on iTunes but I think it gets an official release on May 11th.
