DJ DeeKay - In The Mix

Tinchy Stryder - In My System (VIDEO)

Much as I genuinely like Stryder, the guy just has no lyrics at all (on this, I think he murdered Gangsta). Despite that, this is shaping up to be one of the bangers of the summer, and sounds incredible played at high volume on these beautiful blue-sky days.

Video is alot too. Makes me wanna up and go on holiday now.

Maxsta featuring Kano - East London Is Back (remix)

East London Is Back (The Lost Verse) by Kano

Kano reminds everyone that he used to set the pace and lap guys for fun. The flow's still there, no ring rust.

Realistically this remix needs Wiley and Ghetts and that might actually happen. But I guess the dream is that all the East London boys that have gone come back with a 16 for this anthem. Maxsta featuring Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Ghetts, Wiley and Tinchy Stryder... Obviously Dizzee would never happen, he's gone anyway, but Tinchy could plausibly be talked back to do this one. Someone make it happen.

Oh by the way, I clocked the send K. Just a guy in some clothes yeah? Give that boy stilettos.

Jeezy featuring Drake - Lose My Mind (remix)

New Jeezy and Drake, you either already know what it is or you don't.

Sunday, 27 June 2010

"I'm feeling like Dizzee at the Mercurys, Mega at the MOBOs // Feeling like a Pharaoh, dripping in my rose gold..." ( c ) Scorcher

Scorcher - It's My Time

So how we feeling? Is Skywalker gonna be the next member of "Team UK" to get the call up?

Apart from that cheesy chorus, this isn't actually overly bait. And at least he's saying something, unlike a lot of these "UK Urban" singles that have dropped thus far.

I like Scorch, I hope he makes it through. I'm not yet totally convinced this single is going to be the one that does it (but if Radio 1 takes to it then who knows), but I'm pretty sure that he'll get there sooner or later.

BTW, a few people have got beef with this idea of Team UK. I'm really not with alla that, Team UK all day. They've made me a million times prouder than the England team, at least our guys play with some pride, they worked hard to get there and they're not lazy or complacent.

"And if your name's ringing bells in your town // It's time to turn the YouTube views into Pounds..." ( c ) Chipmunk

Chipmunk and Wretch 32 featuring Sincere and Loick Essien - Last One Standing

Straight up anthem. What Loick did to this hook... Wretch has got a couple bars as well. In fact they all kill it.

Rusko featuring Amber Coffman - Hold On (VIDEO)

This is the tune I heard on Max's 1Xtra show yesterday that didn't get back or front announced or even listed in the tracklisting on the website. Which I'm happy about, because it means I had to use my crack journalist skills to track it down, and it was all the more satisfying when I was successful.

Some sexy garage-dubstep-house hybrid music.

Trey Songz - Fresh Cuts Interview

"All that bullsh*t's for the birds, you ain't nothing but a vulture // always hoping for the worst, waiting for me to f*ck up..."

Chris Brown featuring Tyga and Kevin McCall - Deuces

I'm late, what with not being the biggest Chris Brown fan but I can't deny that this is fucking fire. Way too good to leave as a mixtape single, Chris should've held onto this on for himself. Let's be real, Tyga's nothing special and Kevin McCall is slightly wack (few nice punchlines in that verse though). CB, Drake and Lil' Wayne on this though... that's a comeback hit.

Ciara featuring Andre 3000 and Ludacris - Ride (remix)

"...You wanna give me a taste but don't know how to do it // without feeling like one of many // honey acting like she don't wanna give me any // I said acting like she don't wanna give me any // and I'd do the same thing if I was a Minnie // but I'm a Mickey and that's where it gets tricky..." ( c ) Andre 3000

What?! There's no rapper in the world I'd rather have for a 16 bar guest spot than Andre 3000. Except perhaps Luda who features on the original (and whose verse is rehashed for this epic remix). But Dre's command of language is phenomenal, he's got the best turn of phrase in Hip-Hop.

Let's check out a couple of Andre Benjamin's best recent features.

Lloyd featuring Andre 3000 and Nas - You (remix)

His bars on this make up one of my favourite verses of all time (3:08 in):

Devin The Dude featuring Snoop Dogg and Andre 3000 - What A Job

"...See we do it for that boy that graduated // that looked you in your eyes real tough and said 'preciate it // and that he wouldn'ta made it if it wasn't for your CD, number 9 // and he's standing with his baby momma Kiki and she cryin', talking 'bout // that they used to get high to me in high school // and they used to make love to me in college // then they told me 'bout they first date, listenin' to my tunes // and how he, liked her finger nail polish..."

Infinite reloads this morning alone.

Matti Roots - Raw

Raw (Original) by Matti Roots

I get sent a lot of music, 90% of it is a waste of time. This definitely isn't. I'd never heard of Matti Roots but best believe I'll be paying close attention to him after this landed in my inbox. Just what I needed for a lazy evening. If you're into your soulful laidback R&B then I would definitely recommend you check this out.

He's got a single and an album dropping very soon, more info when I have it. I love this.

This Friday... Warehouse Party!

Boxfresh thing, it's standardly gonna be live. One day I'll start reaching all of these events. Everyone keeps telling me that I really need to be a bit more bait, but allow me, I'm shy... To paraphrase Drake: I'm just not the social type and the media is crazy.

Actually that's a bit of a lie but let's get back to the point...

Can't beat a good warehouse party so click here for more info.

Baby Blue featuring Wretch 32 - Run (VIDEO)

I used to bump this girl's Out Of The Blue mixtapes when she first came out. Good to see her back.

"And that's word to the millions they be putting up // I'm tryna do better than good enough..." ( c ) Drake

So Drake's Better Than Good Enough documentary aired on MTV in the States last night. I don't usually bother with these kinda things (the last one I watched was probably Jay-Z - Fade To Black, which funnily enough was produced by the same team) but as a big fan of this guy from day one, I had to give it a look. Having just watched it, I enjoyed it immensely and if you're a Drake fan I'd recommend you check it out.

Chase and Status - Let You Go

Okay they've found their formula and they're just running with it. Don't get me wrong, this is okay, but come on, it's bait pop-step. In fact, I'm not sure it's even okay, that vocal is a bit fucking cringe, but I know when I get a 320kbps crispy version through and I'm not listening a YouTube radio rip it's going to SOUND great.

On a side note, I want Zane Lowe's radio voice. I might leave the country so I can be on radio with a foreign accent and just sound awesome.

"I was plotting this moment back when y'all was riding spinners..." ( c ) J Cole

J Cole - Who Dat

The talk is that the album is coming in October. If you can't wait until then, and you were smart enough to buy tickets in advance, you can catch him on the sold-out Sunday of Wireless Festival (July 4th).

Lights please.

Tuesday, 22 June 2010

"Who they attracting with that line, 'what's your name, what's your size?' // before I bought the Goose she was already moving loose..." ( c ) Skepta

Skepta - Oynama Sikidim Sikidim

Skeps always has the fittest girls in his videos.

"I had to tell her..."

"And even though we let it go, it's better that you know, I still got it for ya..." ( c ) Drake

Drake - Still Got It

I feel like looking through artists' catalogues, Drake and Trey Songz have the most songs that I can relate to or that mean something to me on a personal level. That's part of the reason I'm such a big supporter of those guys.

On the other hand, they're worldwide sex symbols who are filthy rich living a life of beautiful women, cars and champagne, so perhaps I'm deluded with a much higher opinion of myself than reality justifies.

People that actually know me are gonna be looking for the hidden messages in everything I post now aren't they? Hey, if I do something bait, it's almost always on purpose.

Giggs - SB.TV Interview

Big up the homie Georgia, she handled this nicely. This interview is so fucking funny.

DJ DeeKay - 60 Minute R&B Classics Mix

Hour long mix of some shit hot R&B classics from the 90s and a couple of gems from the early 00s (that I slipped in by accident if I'm being honest). If you like it then please pass on the link and holla at me if you want the MP3.

Excuse the one blatantly clanging mix towards the end, I fucked up.

Maxsta - East London Is Back (VIDEO)

This is a Grime classic already right? For that reason alone, it's alright that this is nearly a year late. The kid's good, nicely directed video too.

And let's face it, after North took over, and East's big name MCs took off on some house/R&B/electro vibe, they needed an anthem to reclaim the underground.

Miguel featuring J Cole - All I Want Is You (VIDEO)

"Just saying, don't wanna have me then somebody will // I'm playing, weight on my chest like I bodybuild..."
(c) J Cole

Sunday, 13 June 2010

"You still got it though, yeah you still got it though // Girl your body looking like a f*cking pot of gold..." ( c ) J Cole

J Cole - Higher

The best new rapper not named Drake drops something shit hot. This kid's got a gift for writing hooks and catchy flows. Can't wait to see him at Wireless on July 4th.

Princess Nyah - Butterflies (VIDEO)

This one's about me you know. Say no more.

Umm actually... can someone explain to Princess that as much as she must love that dog of hers, it's not doing anyone any good just carrying it through the park. She needs to let the lil' dude run. That's all.

Preeya featuring Mumzy Stranger - Shimmy

When did Mumzy Stranger become Jamaican?!

So obviously, I enjoyed this video and am slightly fonder of the song than I probably should be. Mainly because I've honestly wanted to Shimmy Shimmy Ya Ya with Preeya since Bend It Like Beckham (Jaz knows, big up Jaaaaaaz, my original Hounslow honey) but also partly because it's slyly kinda good (out of respect I'll say nothing about Mumzy's verse).

Not just an actress trying her hand at music out of boredom, this girl has some credentials, I look forward to hearing more.

"I tell you I'm the man baby, what is the confusion? // And if they still sleeping on me, someone hit the snooze then..." ( c ) Drake

Drizzy does his thing acapella on Westwood's 1Xtra show.

Caramel - No Chicken

Straight banger. They don't make slow jams like this anymore.

Sunday, 6 June 2010

Bluey Robinson - SB.TV A64

Bluey performs Give Me A Sign acoustically for SB.TV. Finally!

And there's a lil' surprise cover in the last 30 seconds, I won't ruin it because it's all the more awesome if you don't know it's coming in my opinion.

"Baby, won't you tell me what your name is? // Don't you know you hotter than a flame is? // I can make you famous..." ( c ) McLean

McLean - Famous

Produced by Alan Sampson (who was responsible for Jay Sean's Ride It and Stay).

I still feel like the jury's out a bit on McLean which I struggle to understand. When I hear tracks like this and Try Me and hear him sing live, I just think to myself that the UK finally has a bona fide R&B superstar of our own and we've needed him because a lot of the other male vocalists of the past ten years haven't really been cutting it.

With that said, between McLean, Bluey and Loick Essien, things look set to change.

Oh and on a final side note, it's my life's ambition to one day be able to open a conversation with "Baby, I can make you famous."

Saturday, 5 June 2010

Game featuring Robin Thicke and T.I. - Pushin' It

It's no secret that I'm not a fan of The Game but if Chinners has given me one thing, it's a greater appreciation for Robin Thicke. Thus I can see past my hate for The Name(-Dropper) and love this for the banger that it is.

Friday, 4 June 2010

Diddy and Aziz Ansari - Ciroc Advert

This advert is well worth 3mins of your time. Ciroc's some good vodka.

"When I was young, girls didn't wanna know me // But now they put 20 pound credit on the phone just to phone me..." ( c ) Skepta

Shadetek featuring Skepta - Reign

This is a few years old, but I got a new Shadetek tune through and remembered it. Skeppy murks and the beat is particularly crazy. Best I've ever heard him bar, this is Kano - Ghetto Kyote levels. Flow for days.

Thursday, 3 June 2010

Asher Roth - G.R.I.N.D.

Dopeness. I can say "dope" in 2010 in relation to this record because this is some nice actual Hip-Hop shit. And it's positive but not corny - it's not dripping in cheese sauce, although that lil' monologue at the end about "believing in yourself" is a little too much.

Asher Roth, I take my hat off to you. People haven't quite clocked onto it yet, but you've slyly snuck in and dropped a banger. Flow on this is tight too.
